Meet the MDL Team

The business first started in 2018. I have always been very “hands on” and my Dad taught me a lot about DIY so, alongside my day job as a Senior Team Leader in insurance, I would regularly work at weekends doing bits and bobs for friends and family and had done since I was around 21 years old. Around 8 months after mine and India’s son was born, I became really unhappy with my career and place of work and knew I didn’t want to keep working in an office - I just wasn’t passionate about it - but I was very passionate about decorating, fixing problems, adjusting things and finding solutions. I quit my job to set up, what was known then as “MDL Painting & Decorating”, which was risky - given we had a very young family - but I am so pleased I took that leap! Whilst painting and decorating started out as our “bread and butter” we quickly had questions from customers like “why is a painting and decorating company doing my fences/flooring/bathroom?” so MDL Painting & Decorating was renamed MDL Property Maintenance around 12 months later. We’ve gone from being a sole trader relying on work through Facebook and word of mouth in Bournemouth to a family-run business with three employees, three vans on the road, working across Dorset (and even as far as Richmond, Droitwich & the Isle of Wight!) and a portfolio of landlords, letting agents, Property Management companies and private clients whose properties we maintain.

Seeing the business grow (from what started as me in a second-hand Citroen Berlingo doing my rounds!) to what it is now is incredibly fulfilling. We are a true family-run business and I am extremely proud of what we have created.

My favourite type of job and area of expertise would be training Mark & Mikey. Passing on my knowledge and skills to them and then seeing them gain the confidence to be able to do works themselves is really rewarding.

The same as most, I bet… spending time with family and friends. I love Formula One so, during the season, you will likely find me in front of the TV hoping for Hamilton to take pole position or I’ll be at one of the races. I enjoy golf (and try to play as regularly as the business allows!) and enjoy going abroad to play golf too - I’m definitely a fair-weather golfer!

Dubai. I have been to watch the F1 there twice and loved it there.

I raced a Nissan GTR around Silverstone racecourse.

I started in July 2024 when I moved from Slovakia back to the UK.

Improving properties and giving those who live in the property nicer living conditions.

My area of expertise is refurbishments - that’s where I have the most experience - I have refurbished lots of my own properties and have also built two of my own properties from scratch.

Matthew is my Son In Law so I was easily persuaded!

Having family time. I enjoy cooking too - especially Indian food - and actually had one of my recipes published in a book!

Chinese, Indian & Kebab equally. With a decent burger right up there. Oh, and fish and chips...

Alvor in Portugal - amazing place!

I’ve got two. First is that I used to Bobsleigh for Great Britain. The second is I was once mistaken for Will Carling (the old England Rugby Captain) but the smell of alcohol on the guy's breath was overwhelming…

I started in August 2025.

The variety of work. No two days are the same which keeps the job interesting.

My area of expertise… Bringing the good vibes. Bringing in cake. And window sealants.

I’ve wanted to get back into the trade for a long time. I used to work for a bathroom fitting company and going into property maintenance seemed like the best opportunity for me to learn multiple skills.

Spending time with family or on the golf course.

Italian food. 100%.

Either Florence or Barcelona.

I’ve also got two… I used to run the largest UK Skepta fan club on Facebook (I say largest but think I might have been the only one) and I used to co-own a bakery.

I started working for MDL in January 2026.

The part I enjoy the most is speaking to clients, Property Management companies and Letting Agents - negotiations and relationship building were a significant part of my previous job and I’m guilty of enjoying a good old chinwag!

I am the first port of call for our customers, either through Facebook/website enquiries, emails or telephone calls. My area of expertise is communication and organisation so a large part of my role involves planning works, scheduling the diary, liaising with employees, customers & agents and compiling works orders.

I am Matthew’s wife so I have lived and breathed MDL Property Maintenance since the business started. I wanted to start being more involved in the business when I left my old job, and when MDL started to grow, because it meant Matthew could spend more time being “on the tools” and I could pick up the admin side of things. With my Dad already playing a big role in the company, it made sense to expand on our family business and join in too.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends - ideally outside when the weather is good - and it usually involves me cooking and hosting which are two of my favourite things! I also enjoy going to the gym and it’s rare that you’ll find me without a book or my Kindle!

That’s tricky because I am a massive foodie… If I had to choose, I would probably say a Sunday Roast. I'm also a sucker for an ice cream!

Europe, especially the Mediterranean. I love Europe; the weather, the history, the culture (and the wine!).

My interesting fact is, when I was younger, I loved performing. I went to university and gained a BA Hons Degree in Drama & Performance.
